Overseas investment

We provide strategic and pragmatic advice on the full range of legal services required for overseas investment.  We help clients acquire, establish, expand or reorganise businesses in New Zealand.

Overview

We offer advice across the board for international investors wanting to invest in New Zealand - including individuals, and public and private organisations.

Our specialists help you to navigate New Zealand’s complex overseas investment regime

Our team includes leading specialists in corporate law and overseas investment regulation. Our international clients can rely on us to help them navigate New Zealand's complex Overseas Investment Act 2005. We also help to engage with the regulator, the Overseas Investment Office.

We offer strategic advice and assistance to respond to all phases of enforcement action by the Overseas Investment Office.

We are experienced in all aspects of overseas investment

We are extremely well placed to advise on all aspects of investment in New Zealand. We have depth of expertise in the regulation of overseas investment, including:

  • Mergers and acquisitions
  • Banking and finance
  • Competition and anti-trust
  • Capital markets
  • Takeovers
  • Taxation
  • Resource management
  • Property
  • Māori and Treaty of Waitangi issues
  • Public law.

Our expertise can be tailored to fit the type of investment or issue. These can range from a small-scale investment within scope of our national security and public order screening regime, to complex multi-jurisdictional transactions.
