The Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act 2016 received the royal assent on Thursday 7 April 2016. The Act provides a new legal framework to support the regeneration of greater Christchurch over the next five years, following the expiry of the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Act 2011 on Monday 18 April 2016.
Amongst other things, the new Act:

Establishes a new entity called Regenerate Christchurch to lead regeneration in the Christchurch district, which will be jointly controlled by the Christchurch City Council and the Crown

Provides for the continuation of existing Recovery Plans (such as the Christchurch Central Recovery Plan and the Land Use Recovery Plan)

Provides for new Regeneration Plans related to the Christchurch district and greater Christchurch

Allows the transfer of assets, liabilities and land between entities

Provides for the continuation of the review of the Christchurch Replacement District Plan, with the Hearings Panel to make its decisions on the Plan by Friday 16 December 2016.
The parts of the Act relating to the establishment of Regenerate Christchurch and the transfer of assets, liabilities and land between entities came into force on Friday 8 April 2016. All other provisions will come into force on Tuesday 19 April 2016.
