Yesterday the Minister for Greater Christchurch Regeneration released a media statement advising that the Christchurch City Council will be given back control over its district planning process over two years ahead of schedule.
Control was not due to be handed back until the expiry of the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act 2016 on 30 June 2021. The change will be achieved by revoking the Canterbury Earthquake (Christchurch Replacement District Plan) Order 2014, which will take effect from 18 March 2019.
This means that people and the Council will be able to initiate changes to the Christchurch District Plan from 18 March 2019.
Please feel free to contact a member of our national environment and resource management team if you wish to discuss the implications of this.
