The Natural and Built Environment (NBE) Bill and Spatial Planning Bill (the Bills) have passed their final stage in Parliament and will now be sent to the Governor-General to be signed into law. The two new Bills will replace the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA) but with a staged, nearly decade-long transition period. The transition will commence on the day the Bills receive Royal Assent and become law.
The interaction between the RMA and the new legislation and the transition to the NBE and Spatial Planning legislation will be an interesting and potentially complex period for users of the resource management system.
